Only If You’ll Have Me is the new single from the Chester based rock duo, Sustinere. Their sound encompasses growling distorted guitars and dynamic drums. Don’t underestimate the pair; they’re capable of making some serious noise!
Opening with a powerful bass line the track hooks you in from the off. The main riff is reminiscent of Royal Blood and Muse. The guitar has a deliciously distorted tone that really fills the track to create a solid wall of sound, and it contrasts nicely with the calmer dynamics of the second verse. This variation with softer vocals, minimal percussion and gentler strumming, before erupting back into full force, plays with their sound. The percussion from Mike emphasises the momentum of the track; it has a great high energy rhythm and blends well with the guitar. Rob’s vocal harmonies add something extra to the track. The melody lines fill out the higher range of their sound whilst giving space the instruments in the lower ranges. The lyrical content of the track is also very catchy and fits seamlessly with the instrumentation. I can easily see fans singing along to this during a live performance.
Sustinere have produced a stonking track in Only If You’ll Have Me. The single really shows off their song writing skills and their ability to utilise the instruments to create a huge sound. It’ll be great to see this performed live (whenever that may be!).
