Persistent depressive disorder, also called dysthymia, is a continuous long-term (chronic) form of depression. You may lose interest in normal daily activities, feel hopeless, lack productivity, and have low self-esteem and an overall feeling of inadequacy. These feelings last for years and may significantly interfere with your relationships, school, work and daily activities.
‘Dysthymia’ is one of the band’s oldest songs, a set staple, and offers a different side to their song writing compared to previous releases ‘Angry Machine’ and ‘Upwardly Mobile (Ultimately Vile)’/’Why Won’t You Love Me?’. Whilst maintaining the raw energy and punk influence on these earlier singles, ‘Dysthymia’ leans towards their hard rock roots with a punk influence and a more ambitious song arrangement. ‘Dysthymia’ is their longest release (at a huge 4:22 minutes!) and showcases each member’s talent on their respective instruments. ‘Dysthymia’ also presents a development in the studio, as was recorded by the band themselves in their ‘BED+SHED Studios’.
