The dynamic trio have been keeping busy with a new single ‘Back Breaker‘ releasing on the 9th October! Find out more about the new track and what they’ve been up to below:
1) What inspired your upcoming single ‘Back Breaker’?
Without being too specific it’s basically about working hard for people or companies that would do very little to return the favour if roles were reversed. The words just came to me while I was feeling mad so I recorded it into my phone that Matt and Nathan helped finish it off.
2) The new single has a very different sound to your last release, ‘The Wild Side of Eden’. Why did you choose to release this track next?
This year we wanted to put out a variety of singles, mainly to show what we can do and what we want to do as a band. We don’t want to be pigeon holed either. We believe we’ve done that with the previous two releases and Back Breaker. And our ten’s of fans enjoy it live too! Haha!
3) How was the recording process?
We went with the same method as the last 2 singles – we recorded the drum parts at the same time as the previous two releases so we’ve had that for ages. Next, Matt laid down his guitar parts and any overdubs and then Nathan did the vocals. It was an easy song to record really as there isn’t anything fancy in there; It’s literally just drums, guitar and vocals. Because of that it sounds as it should do and we’re really proud of it.
4) Has your song-writing been affected by current events?
Not really. It stalled when we were stuck inside on furlough or working from home. But we had plenty of ideas to work from before lockdown and we’ve come up with some more since. We’ve been able to meet up and managed to get a couple of rehearsals in recently so we can start putting new stuff together. And we’re not going to start writing about lockdown or corona virus either. Our experience of it has been pretty boring.
5) You guys are very DIY having your own ‘BED+SHED’ studio set up. Does this help your creativity having full control over the production aspects?
It makes things a hell of a lot easier to be honest. We can record as and when we need to, and we can play around with whatever we like. I’m surprised a lot of bands don’t take this route to be honest; we have creative control over every part of the release and we decide everything that goes into a track. We know we’re not releasing stuff that sounds like it was done at Abbey Road or somewhere like that, but that doesn’t bother us. There has been improvements with every release we’ve done in terms of sound quality and we’re hoping to keep going like this moving forward. At the end of the day, we’ve knocked out six tracks in the last year and it’s probably cost us less than a family ticket to the fucking zoo – that’s probably the best way to look at it.
