The dynamic post-punk quartet from York, England, are preparing to release their thrilling and eclectic new offering, Monorail. Delivering an energetic sound with progressive instrumentation, and a good dose of humour, Percy venture on a journey through the realms punk, alt rock, space rock and soaring soundscapes across eleven marvellous tracks.
Written in the aftermath of the pandemic, a subconscious theme emerges as the band’s vivid imagination reflects on the rupture of normality that we all shared. The frustration of being locked up, being an impotent bystander as restrictions are imposed, insomnia, wanting another life, wanting to be back amongst friends, wanting the freedom of the open desert as you live a life through your TV box sets. The on-line world is not the real world. Monorail follows the album Seaside Donkeys released on an exclusive vinyl issue in April 2020.
Percy were established in 1996 and this is the third album since the original members of Colin Howard (guitar/vox) and Andy Wiles (bass) were joined in 2017 by Paula Duck (keys) and Jason Wilson (drums).
The album was recorded in live takes at “Wild Bills Snooker Palace” a secret location on the outskirts of York. Starting in autumn 2021 the tracks were recorded, mixed and produced by Andy Wiles over several sessions. These capture the energy of the songs in those live takes with vocals and additional sound ideas (such as using vocal samples) overlaid in virtual sessions.
Monorail will release via Ten Foot Records on all streaming platforms on the 25th of June 2022, with the 23rd of June seeing their launch show at Fulford Arms in York, at which CDs will be available to purchase.
Catch Percy live through June, July and August – dates booked in Gateshead, Leeds, Hull and York, check the website and social media feeds for dates and locations.
